Bridge Term

Being postponed for life insurance can be frustrating. Bridge Term can help Clients bridge the coverage gap.

The opportunity

We may offer 1-Year Bridge Term to eligible postponed life insurance applicants while they wait for outstanding medical tests and diagnoses.

A first in the insurance industry, Bridge Term gives Clients peace of mind their loved ones will be protected. Eligible Clients can get coverage for one year, giving them time to resolve any tests or diagnoses, after which they can re-apply for life insurance.

Benefits for Clients

  • Available for eligible life insurance applicants who were postponed during the underwriting process
  • Coverage for one year while they wait for medical tests and diagnoses
  • Peace of mind their loved ones will be protected
  • Ability to re-apply for life insurance after medical tests have been resolved

Important note

  • Coverage is non-renewable and non-convertible
  • If a Client accepts Bridge Term coverage, they can only do so once. We can’t offer Bridge Term if the Client is postponed for another life insurance product after their 1-year term ends.
  • While more applicants will be approved for coverage than ever before, some will still be declined. Bridge Term is not a guaranteed issue product. In some cases, Clients may benefit from applying for Sun Life Go Guaranteed Insurance.

Will a Client be approved?

We may offer Bridge Term in the case of certain medical postpones. Bridge Term is not a guaranteed issue solution and there are instances where we’ll be unable to offer this coverage.

We anticipate Bridge Term will be available for approximately 20% of postponed Clients who wouldn’t otherwise qualify for coverage. There are scenarios where we can’t offer Bridge Term. These include, but are not limited to:

  • cases where we’d postpone the Client for reasons related to financial underwriting or residency
  • history of multiple prior postponements
  • pending procedure with suspicion of malignancy or pending biopsy
  • any pending investigation for heart disease and/or stroke symptoms or rectal bleeding
  • more than one pending investigation, test, consult or procedure
  • pending tests, investigations or procedures not expected to be completed within the one-year period
  • non-compliance with recommended treatment or follow-ups
