One of Wai’s favourite sayings, and a rule that he lives by is “what you share, you multiply, and what you hold, you diminish.” Wai brings this collaborative spirit to his work every day. He’s a passionate and strategic leader who will build long term partnerships with trust and respect. He brings to the team more than 25 years of experience in insurance and financial management through sales and distribution strategies. During his career, he has led sales operation, within Independent Insurance Distribution; Agency Distribution; recruiting and training, and has developed and coached advisors on how they can increase company sales.
Wai joined Sun Life in 2014 as a Regional Sales Director where he was working with MGAs and brokers to build insurance solutions for their HNW, UHNW, Business Owners and Professional markets to excel their business through a solid brand and strong partnership. On May of 2019, he was promoted to Director of Sales where he managed a team of Account Managers, Insurance Sales Representatives and a Sales and Marketing Coordinator. His focus was to guide talent within people, coach, and inspire others to achieve their sales results by providing clear objectives, monitoring key results, and measuring key performance indicators. As of March of 2021, he became a Regional Vice President in the Central South-West & Atlantic Region where he started. He is accountable for the overall leadership and execution of the Independent Insurance Distribution channel.
In his current role as Regional Vice President, he is accountable for developing and maintaining appropriate contact with the MGA (Managing General Agency) Principals of distribution located in Ontario and the Atlantic region, in order to build strong relationships. He is also responsible for the productivity and sales targets from both the MGA and National Accounts within his region.
His approach to business and experience within HNW and UHNW in both the Canadian and Asian market are going to be the key element to his team’s success.
Wai holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Manitoba and is licensed in both Life Insurance and Mutual Funds. He has obtained his certification as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and is currently working towards obtaining his Chartered Financial Planner (CFP) designation. Wai is fluent in English and Cantonese and conversational in Mandarin.
